Route Development in the Organ Mountains

In a couple days, we slogged up way too much gear, were rained on, and put up new routes on the Sugarloaf formation in the Organ Mountains.

Two routes were accomplished:
Crackle Top - 5.11-
Crescendo - 5.11+

After this trip we realized how much potential the Organs have and can't wait to get back!

The Crew - Matt, Sarah, Adam, & Nate

Sooo much gear...

We found 6 of these guys wandering..

Sleeping arrangements were quite nice
(Sarah hid from the creepy crawlies in her tent)

Crescendo now has anchors!

Nate on the rappel.

Packed up to head home, quite the committing trek.
(What took 2 loads to get up we stuffed down for 1 load to descend... heavy)
Sugarloaf can be seen in the background.

Tired faces after a difficult but rewarding week in the mountains.

24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell 2012!!

24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell 2012!!!

This year was an awesome year at 24HHH. Nate and his partner set a new record of routes climbed in 24 hours. They climbed 310 routes, that's 13,370 feet of vertical sandstone.
Sarah and her partner scooped up the number 2 and 3 spots for the Advanced Female Division, with 161 routes climbed and 7,220 feet.

It rained this year which was a huge struggle but all of the climbers overcame the difficulties and continued to climb in the rain, still breaking records even with terrible weather. This year had the most talented climbers yet with over 40 climbers completing 100 or more personal routes in 24 hours.

Nate and his partner Jeremy Collins.

Sarah and her partner Rachel Bryan.

The competitors getting the rules.

270 competitors this year.

 Jeremy giving the "Climbers Creed"!

"Partner, Don't drop me!"

Waiting out the RRRAAAAIIIIINNNN.

Sarah got 2nd this year.

Sarah cruising up Ace in the hole, 5.10 after 22 hours.

Still psyched even after the 24 hour beat down.

5k Race - Dash for the Splash

This past weekend we had a chance to run in the Dash for the Splash 5k race down in Branson, MO.
It was a great time getting to run with my roommate from college, Shauna Perkins.
You dont get to know our times......

Nate and I after the race, I was pretty whipped!

With Shauna, she ran like a machine (put me to shame... sadness).

Hamilton Pool

We had a chance to go to Hamilton Pool near Austin, Texas several weeks ago. It was great spending time with Nate's parents and enjoying the beautiful Texas countryside.

Little critter off the path.

Kathi Moore, Lovely mother and mother-in-law.

Nate with his Dad.

Hamilton Pool, crazy cool rock formation!

Sarah has been making bags out of the core of our retired climbing ropes. She's made enough of them that we have decided to sell them. If your interested email her at SarahLynnMoore86@gmail.com

Critters...

So in our adventures in Texas we have seen some impressive little critters and we decided to share them with the world.

These little guys were stalking each other and fighting, it was pretty awesome.

As they stalked each other, we stalked them.
"Anole Lizards"

I've never seen a black grasshopper, have you? (He looks evil)
"Eastern Lubber Grasshopper Nymph"

This dude is huge, Nate found him after it fell out of a tree. (too fat to hold on?)

Sarah playing with the lizards.

So we looked him up and this is the caterpillar of the Polyphemus Moth (6 inch wingspan)

Mr. Polyphemus.
